Period Poise Meets Modern Magnificence – And It’s On The Market!

On The Market

Sasha Gattermayr

An extension by architect Matt Gibson gives this period dwelling a modern update.

Large volumes and light materials give the house a great sense of space, while exposed brick nods to the heritage character of the original house.

The double-height ceilings in the living area create excellent proportions.

The light and lofty living area is the previous owners’ favourite part of the house!

The front rooms sit in the same footprint in the original Edwardian structure.

Black industrial steel lends a modern feel to the renovation, while a cantilevered deck is a touch of engineering magic!

The single-fronted Edwardian home has been rejuvenated for the next phase in its life.

Mark and Caroline Ottley moved into this quaint Edwardian home ten years ago after spying its newly renovated interiors in Houses magazine. They snapped it up immediately!

The principal bedrooms and bathroom are all contained to the front of the dwelling, which still retains its heritage character. Progressing through the house to the rear of the property, the modern extension reveals itself. Designed by architect Matt Gibson, the renovation consists of a breezy, open-plan pavilion with double-height ceilings, which opens up the previously modest proportions of the home.

This lofty living space is the heart of the home, and where Mark and Caroline spent most of their time.

‘It feels light and spacious at all times of the day and we love pushing back the glazed doors to open up the space to the garden,’ they say. ‘It feels like the outdoors indoors.’ A cantilevered deck stretches towards the garden to complement this transition.

With solid timber floors, in-built banquette dining seating, and an underground wine cellar (!), this is more than just your average family pad!

The Ottleys are making a sea change after a stressful year, so this gorgeous home is waiting for the perfect new occupant! Is that you?

26 Waltham Street will be sold via auction at 12.30pm Saturday, February 20th by Ryan Currie and Jayson Watts at Nelson Alexander. See the listing here!
